
The Health Promotion Foundation (HPF) inaugurated a new Changing Diabetes® in Children (CDiC) center at Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS). This milestone represents a significant advancement in the fight against diabetes among children and young adults in Pakistan.
The CDiC program, a public-private partnership initiated by Novo Nordisk Pakistan and HPF, aims to provide comprehensive care for children and young adults living with type 1 diabetes, particularly those from low-income families. The new center at DUHS will serve as a vital resource for education, treatment, and support, ensuring that children living with diabetes receive the essential care they need.
Prof. Abdul Basit, Vice Chairman of HPF sharing his views said that establishing this new center at Dow University of Health Sciences reflects our ongoing commitment to addressing the needs of children with diabetes in Pakistan. Through this initiative, we are determined to provide life-saving medication, blood glucose monitoring equipment, and medical supplies to ensure that no child suffers from the consequences of undiagnosed or untreated diabetes.

Rashed Rafique Butt, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Pakistan emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, “Our collaboration with HPF and Dow University is a testament to our shared commitment to improving the lives of children with type 1 diabetes. By providing access to affordable care, enhancing public awareness, and fostering research, we strive to create a comprehensive support system for affected families.
The new CDiC center will not only offer medical care but will also provide educational resources to empower children and their families with the knowledge needed to manage diabetes effectively. This initiative will integrate with local healthcare systems and foster collaboration with DUHS and other associations to strengthen diabetes care in the city of Karachi.
The inauguration ceremony, which formally marked the opening of the center, was attended by local and regional leadership from Novo Nordisk, including Burak Cem, Corporate Vice President of Region BAMECA, Rashed Rafique Butt, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Pakistan, as well as other key stakeholders, healthcare professionals, and advocates in the field of diabetes care.
MOU SIGNING CEREMONY
Earlier, MoU signing ceremony was held at Dow University (Ojha) Campus under the esteemed leadership of Prof. Mohammed Saeed Quraishy T.I, Meritorious Professor & Vice Chancellor, DUHS, and Prof. Jahan Ara Hasan, Meritorious Professor & Pro Vice Chancellor, DUHS. Representing the two partnering institutions were Prof. Abdul Basit from HPF and Dr. Ashar Afaq, Registrar of DUHS.

The CDIC project is a global initiative being implemented in collaboration with Novo Nordisk and Roche across 18 countries. In Pakistan, the program has been active for the last three years with 26 centers already established. NIDE becomes the 27th center to join this life-saving initiative. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Musarrat Riaz, director NIDE stated that this partnership reflects a strong commitment to improving the quality of life for children living with type 1 diabetes in Pakistan.
