Mirpur Journal of Medical Sciences Achieves Prestigious Recognition by the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan

In a significant achievement for the medical community of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), the Mirpur Journal of Medical Sciences (MJMS) has been officially approved and indexed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan in category “Y.” This milestone marks MJMS as the first medical journal from AJK to achieve such recognition, demonstrating its commitment to advancing medical knowledge and research.

Launched in 2023 by the Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College, Mirpur, MJMS has quickly established itself as a leading platform for medical professionals and researchers in the region. The journal will now be presented to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) for further recognition in November 2024.

The Chief Editor of MJMS, Dr. Muhammad Amjad, Professor of Medicine, and the Managing Editor, Dr. Zahida Qasim, Professor of Pathology, have played key roles in driving the journal’s success. Prof. Faisal Bashir, Principal of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College, Mirpur, serves as the Patron of the journal.

To celebrate this momentous achievement, a special ceremony was held at the Divisional Headquarters Teaching Hospital, Mirpur, organized by Medical Superintendent, Dr. Amir Aziz. The event was graced by Director General Health, AJK, Dr. Farooq Ahmed Noor, who attended as the Guest of Honour. The highlight of the celebration was the ceremonial cake-cutting, symbolizing the journal’s successful journey and its bright future.

The recognition of MJMS by HEC reflects the growing significance of medical education and research in AJK. It stands as a testament to the dedication of the faculty and staff at Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College and their commitment to enhancing the standards of healthcare in the region.
