
Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Professor Nazli Hussain, has said that in the modern era of artificial intelligence, increased competition is a natural phenomenon; however, adaptability, continuous hard work, and a passion for lifelong learning are the qualities that lead individuals toward new and better opportunities. She emphasized that during this journey, respect for human life and adherence to ethical values remain our most valuable assets. “I always have positive hope and complete faith in you,” she added.
She expressed these views while addressing the 15th Convocation of Dow University of Health Sciences. Besides her, Chairperson of the Convocation Committee Professor Saba Sohail and other dignitaries also spoke on the occasion. Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Jahan Ara Hassan, Controller of Examinations Mohsina Zaini, Principal of Dow International Medical College Professor Uzma Bukhari, along with faculty members, students, and a large number of parents, were present at the ceremony.
The Vice Chancellor stated that Dow Medical College has recently completed 80 years of its academic journey, which stands as a testament to its scholarly services and proud traditions. She noted that the institution is among the country’s oldest and most prestigious educational establishments and has earned global recognition in the field of medicine. From the world’s first xenotransplantation to the establishment of institutions like SIUT, Dow’s graduates have played a pivotal role in bringing pride to Pakistan.
She further said that the university has now evolved into a vast academic system, comprising more than 20 constituent institutions offering education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Advising the graduating students, Professor Nazli Hussain urged them never to forget the sacrifices of their parents and to consider serving them as a fundamental duty. She said that even if students go abroad for higher education, they should refine their skills and return to serve their homeland and nation. She highlighted that the practical training experience gained at Civil Hospital and Dow Hospital is unparalleled anywhere in the world. She described the university as a mother who always welcomes her children and encouraged alumni to stay connected with the institution through the alumni portal.
During the 15th Convocation of Dow University of Health Sciences, degrees were conferred upon 2,894 graduates in MBBS, BDS, Pharm-D, DPT, and Allied Health Sciences programs. The convocation was held at the Ojha Campus Cricket Ground. Registrar Dr. Ashar Afaq administered the oath to MBBS graduates, pledging unbiased service to humanity, while Convocation Committee Chairperson Professor Saba Sohail, in her inaugural address, termed the convocation day as highly significant.On the occasion, the Best Graduate Award, named after the late renowned professor of medicine at Dow Medical College, Professor Muhammad Shafee Qureshi, was awarded to Dow Medical College student Tanveer Fatima. Additionally, three best graduates each from Dow Medical College and thirteen other institutes and colleges of the university were awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, respectively. In total, 67 medals were awarded.
