The Federal Directorate of Immunization (FDI), in partnership with UNICEF and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has handed over 118 mobile vans to Provincial and Area Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) offices. These mobile units will deliver essential health and immunization services directly to underserved and hard-to-reach communities across Pakistan.
The launch ceremony was attended by Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal, who personally handed over the vehicle keys to EPI provincial managers. Also present were Dr Soofia Yunus, Director General of FDI; Ms Sharmeela Rasool, Deputy Representative of UNICEF Pakistan; Mr Gunter Boussery, Chief of Health at UNICEF Pakistan; and Mr Sunday Audu, Officer-in-Charge of WHO in Pakistan.
Under the vision of the health minister, the mobile vans are intended to bring life-saving vaccines, maternal and child health care, and nutrition services directly to families in remote, urban and peri-urban areas, helping ensure that no child is left behind.
Minister Kamal highlighted that the fleet will strengthen Pakistan’s immunization outreach, supporting routine vaccination efforts and helping address gaps in access to preventive health services. He also reminded the public that for information on the 13 vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) covered under the programme, people can call FDI’s toll-free helpline at 1166.
This initiative is part of broader efforts by the Government of Pakistan—with key support from global partners like UNICEF and Gavi—to expand equitable access to quality immunization and health services for all children, especially those in remote and underserved populations.
